Fine way to start a mutiny.

[Booker knew from first-hand experience that men who were afraid of their commanding officers were more likely to make talk about overthrowing him - killing him in his sleep, or worse. The regiments that had more...accessible leaders didn't make one peep about it. They loved their commanders.]
