voidseeing | [Accidental Voice/Action]

[The journal pops open as it hits the ground, the camera pointed straight upwards into the trees. There's nothing to be seen other than branches and leaves, and at first it may seem like just an accident... but the sounds that it picks up make it very clear this isn't just someone being careless and letting their journal fall out of a bag. In fact, the very first thing that anyone will hear is the sharp report of a gunshot, followed immediately by yelling.]

Law! Behind you!

On it. Room. [There’s a flash and the branches and leaves are now washed out by a blue glow. There’s the sound of a growl, the snap of electricity, and then an explosion.] Watch out! They’re swarming!

[Two more gunshots echo over the journals.]

Damn it... how many of them are there?

Can’t tell yet, Gai. [More explosions, and the crack of wood being torn apart. Then the groan and thud of trees crashing down.] They’re still coming out of the woodwork.

[Another shot.]

Guess we should be honored they felt we needed this much of a welcoming committee.

Goodness knows I’m flattered. [Metal clanging.] Perhaps this is what they think consists of therapy. [A crack.] Ugh. Well, if they’re offering, who am I to refuse? I’ve got a few issues to work out…

Too bad I prefer my therapy to be one on one.

[Another clang, then a thud. There's another wash of light, this time silver rather than blue-- a light that should be very familiar to a certain Shu Ouma if he happens to be looking into the journal while all of this is going down.

The sounds of combat continue for a while longer, at last dwindling down to an almost painful silence. This silence lingers for a long moment, heavy, until Gai's voice finally breaks it, exhausted yet triumphant.]

... they'd better not charge us for that session.

[Anyone who happens by the Battle Dome after this little spectacle will be treated to the sight of a battered and exhausted Gai and Law surrounded by droid fragments and damaged trees. They're in surprisingly good spirits considering what just happened, though some healing would be very much appreciated right about now.]

Like I said, it's just a few scratches and bruises.

[He moves to sit up more so she can get a better look at him, but doing so causes him to wince, as quick as he is to try to hide it.]

... and a few cracked ribs, from the feel of it. Nothing I won't survive.

[Hey man, you brought it up. Don't needle people when they're in a state to snap back. That said, that wasn't a snap. Just tired.

... besides they got a droid to study at Law's first kidnapping.]

... worst is the ribs. I'm handling those. [There's a glowing hand pressed against his side. Filial magic is handy.] If you could get the head wounds, I'd be appreciative.

Do you want me to go there so you can beat me up again? Is that it?

[Shu won't ever admit it, but he's pretty sensitive about that.]

[Elizabeth is quick to put her hands on Gai's shoulders and push, trying to get him to relax again instead of trying to sit up.]

But it can get worse if you don't rest. [Though really, she doesn't know what to do about cracked ribs. She casts a glance at Law, but decides not to ask while he's healing himself. Instead, she goes for the antiseptic and gauze and starts preparing to clean the cuts Gai has sustained.]

What did they want...?

Go ahead and look if you want, but the ones who escape always take all of the important parts back with them. You won't find anything useful there unless you're into making modern art.

[Gai's sense of humor isn't much better at the moment. He'll try, though, because there's a sense of near-giddiness that comes from having fought off so many droids and escaped (mostly) in one piece.]

Got any bandages in there?

Do you want an explanation or don't you?

[Yeah, definitely not in the mood for Shu's shit right now.]

[There's no resistance to her actions on Gai's end; he'll allow her to push him back against the tree so that she can clean him up. Fortunately, most of them look a lot worse than they are due to being scalp wounds, though he'll still be putting out a request for a healer later to come fix him up, as skeptical of magic as he is.]

Us.

[The hand still clutching his Void squeezes it a little bit tighter.]

Would you even give it to me if I asked? [He's got an expression on that says I'll figure things out for myself, thank you very much.]

You might not want to hear it.

[For once, he's being 100% honest.]

[Elizabeth pours some alcohol onto a swab and starts delicately picking Gai's hair out of the wound.]

I realized that much... but do you think it was because... [She looks at Law too, a shadow coming over her expression.] Do you think it was because of the mission?

You're right, I don't want to hear it. But I need to know so fine.

I'll go. I'm leaving as soon as you raise your fist on me, so don't even try.

[Shu can at least agree with this line of thought.]

Suit yourself.

[It's not a promise that he won't punch Shu again, but he isn't saying that he will, either. It all depends on how Shu behaves.]

I don't know. But I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

[He holds still, allowing her to work on the wound.]

I knew that was a risk when I agreed to be the one of the ones to explain the situation to everyone.

[Shu showed up at Gai's apartment. He couldn't help but grit his teeth because he really doesn't want to be here. Gai might notice that Shu's exhausted. He decided to show up anyways because he knew that he wouldn't get this chance again. ]

[Once she's satisfied that she can get a clear shot at the wound, she warns him and starts dabbing gently.]

We needed a leader during the mission. And once we all came back, it made the most sense for the both of you to explain things. You could see the bigger picture better than any of us.

[That isn't to say that Elizabeth is feeling 100% alright with the situation. She doesn't know how she feels about being Brave Leader's Girlfriend, hoping he doesn't get attacked and dragged off...]

[But that's something for her to own, not Gai.]

Does it bother you?

[Gai is no fool; he can tell she's feeling uncertain about all of this. After what just happened and the implications it could have for her, he can't blame her one bit.

Telling her about the things he's done in his world is one thing. That's secondhand information, easy enough to maintain a degree of separation from. But seeing it happen right in front of her? That's something else entirely.

This is Gai the Leader, and these are the kinds of things that are a part of his life.]

'Bother' isn't the right word. [She chuckles a little, but it dies very quickly when she sees Gai isn't buying it. But she manages a small, sad smile and keeps dabbing at Gai's forehead.]

I'm afraid for you, but I'm sure that's not a surprise. It's nothing new, either.

[In a way, he'd feared this: that she might end up having second thoughts when faced with the reality of what he does. Call it his insecurity raising its head again.]

Didn't I tell you that I'm good at surviving things?

[It's a weak attempt at humor, but it's the best he can think of right now.]

[This isn't Elizabeth having second thoughts at all, though. If she had been unable to handle the stress that came with being attached to Gai, she would have been gone a while ago.]

Didn't I tell you that I'm too stubborn not to worry anyway?

You've got a point.

[He takes another experimental breath, wincing again. Yep, that's definitely no mere bruise.]

Ugh... I could've done without remembering how much of a pain cracked ribs are.

W-what's going on?!

Is everything alright?!

Hey... hey!!

Laaaame...so lame. Why can't they just be dumb for once?

[There's a questionable look at that question.]

I don't think I could call it a proper first aid kit if it didn't have bandages.

Anyway, you want me to do it or do you?

[He knows that NOW...but he just didn't want that coming back to bite him at this very moment.]

Yeah, I can do that much.

[Basic first aid did cover at least that much. Going over to Law he'll just start opening the kit up. First the disinfectant.]

Hopefully you can bear with me on this part. All things considered.

[He begins cleaning the wounds now with a cotton ball.]

We're intact.

[That sounds cheerful enough, save for the groan at the end.]

... just ran into a little droid trouble, is all.

I won't move. [And to his word, he doesn't even flinch despite the sting.] I've gone through worse.
