This is so very Shu that Gai can't help but roll his eyes. Instead of just ignoring him and cutting off contact, he calls up Gai to tell him he's going to do so and tries to start a conversation in the process. Definitely Shu. But he'll humor the boy for the moment and go along with this.]

Did I ever say for a moment that I didn't see you as a friend? Or is that just another conclusion you're jumping to on your own?

[Gai never said that, no. Shu feels a little bad for assuming that now.]

Then what did you want me to think after how you treated me last time? A punch to the face isn't exactly a friendly greeting.

I know you aren't friendly, but you could have at least tried to explain things to me before saying that I was unfit to be in charge.

I guess Inori was lying when she said you said thank you after you died.

[That comment about what Inori heard makes him bristle, in part because that is in fact what he'd said. Shu bringing it up in a situation like this just makes him feel awkward and defensive, though.]

I would've explained things to you if you hadn't been so busy jumping to your own conclusions and insulting my girlfriend. You were the one who started things off by accusing me of abandoning Funeral Parlor in favor of her, or have you already forgotten that?

And you think I insulted her? I barely spoke to her. You just don't want me to get near her.

You're too busy being protective of her that you've lost sight of the important things. The Gai I knew wouldn't have responded to that so emotionally.

It doesn't matter if you wanted to explain things before or not. The point is that you didn't. I'm capable of figuring everything out on my own and I don't need your approval. I've got important decisions to make that will decide the fate of hundreds of people. I can't be worrying about your girlfriend.

And you think I didn't have to make those same kinds of decisions every day back in Japan? Every single mission Funeral Parlor ever undertook involved dozens, sometimes hundreds of lives on my shoulders. If you're getting this worked up over having to make decisions as a Student Council President, then you really aren't ready to be looking after Funeral Parlor in my stead.

You won't always have someone to hold your hand and explain things to you. The sooner you learn that, the better, or else you'll just end up getting people killed.

Why are you telling me that? No one's holding my hand through anything. I'm looking into things that you haven't even tried yet. [Shu's going to take that back if he knows that Gai's been trying to learn magic.]

Inori's not here, and neither is Hare. I never relied on you once here, so who?

Funeral Parlor's disbanded, either way. We don't even know where Argo is. There's no way of keeping track of everyone with how much chaos goes on every day. It's not an average mission. It's not something you organized and I'm not leading by choice, like you.

You made assumptions about what was going on when you arrived without even stopping to think things through. And what's more, you hurt Elizabeth in the process.

Maybe I am being protective of her. But it's for the same reason that you're so protective of Inori, and don't try to tell me that you don't know why that is. You have no right to accuse me of losing sight of what's important when you've done the exact same thing yourself.

Don't you dare compare Elizabeth with Inori.

Inori she works so hard and yet she never complained once. If that's all it takes to make Elizabeth upset, then I never knew you were into sensitive girls.

Maybe you'll just move onto a different girl once you're done with her too. The same way you were done with Inori.

[Gai you should know better than to bring up Inori in front of Shu. Now he'll never shut up about this.]

I was never with her. She chose you over me, just as Mana did years ago.

What reason could she have for wanting to chose me? It was always you!

[He closes his eyes for a moment, recalling her words to him when he'd asked her what was so special about Shu. Shu is everything he's not when it comes to emotions and how he feels and expresses them, he knows this. He knows it and has accepted it, but it still hurts.]

[Shu sounds like he's calmed down but he sounds more upset than apathetic.]

She asked me about it before the mission to Haneda. She wanted to know whether what she felt towards you was love or not.

But that was when I said all those terrible things to her. Inori...[Shu's crying again. Inori really does care about him and he's more sure of it now.]

Now do you understand how I feel about Elizabeth?

[Because he knows Shu does, whether he'll admit to it or not.]

I stand by what I said before.

You can do what you want with Elizabeth, just don't get me involved in her. I'll only cause you more trouble.

[FINE, BE THAT WAY. Gai is actually going to be the mature adult and just let Shu go off to have his tantrum rather than calling him back to yell at him.

If Shu wants to be a brat, then so be it.]
