[Gai's eyebrows lift, though it's with curiosity and amusement rather than skepticism. This birthday present just got that much better with the addition of some very nice mental images there.]

You can hardly accuse me of being cruel when you say something like that without sharing any of the details.

[Elizabeth laughs as she cuts Gai a piece of the cake.] There aren't any details to share! Sometimes I just enjoy romantic thoughts, you know. Like... hm...

[She tries to get the words back into order as she slides the cake onto the plate and picks up a fork.]

Oh! A gentle kiss upon titian satin shoulders, you to stir ever so slightly…eyes flutter, cascading from dream to dream.

[She smiles and holds out a strawberry on the end of a fork for Gai to eat.] Sometimes I feel like I'm reading about us falling in love, even if they're poems written for someone else entirely.

[Gai happily obliges by eating that strawberry... but he can't behave himself enough to keep from licking his lips after doing so. It's only fair if they're going to be talking about love poetry, innocent and not.]

Too bad I don't actually look that elegant while I'm sleeping. That's how I know they definitely weren't written about me.

But you, on the other hand...

How do you know you don't look elegant when you're sleeping, hm? [Elizabeth tries to stifle a grin by biting her lip as she watches Gai lick his lips. Oh this man is just too much sometimes...]

I think you look beautiful. Hair spread out over my pillow, your usual taut angles smooth and relaxed-- [She holds out a bit of cake this time.] The sun comes through my window and you're just... golden.

Until I wake up, and then I'm making terrible jokes and getting my hair in the shower drain. When you put it that way, maybe sleep is the only time where I really do look elegant.

[He is definitely too much sometimes and he knows it. Still, the fact that he's able to joke around like this at all is a sign of just how far he's come.]

It would at least explain why you've never told me to cut my hair even when it gets everywhere.

[Laughing, he accepts that bite of cake.]

Oh I've never told you to cut your hair because it does get everywhere...

[Elizabeth puts the tines of the fork between her teeth, coyly, then gets another bite of cake for him.]

If you were elegant every moment of every day, I wouldn't feel right chasing after you so intently.

So I need to start snoring and drooling and tripping over things more often, got it. Then I'll really be desirable.

[Again he takes the bite of cake, though this time he's not quite as precise and a little bit of the frosting ends up on the corner of his mouth.

Which totally and completely wasn't on purpose, not in the slightest.]

Oh don't give me that, you know what I mean. [She falls right for Gai's trap, and reaches to get the bit of cream with her finger.] I love a roguish type.

[And no sooner does she do so than Gai's lips are around said finger, tongue dragging leisurely over the length of it.

To be fair, he did warn her that she couldn't trust parts of her body around his mouth.]

[Yeah, she walked right into that one. And as Gai opens his mouth, Elizabeth realizes and just lets it happen. She really didn't intend for things to get this heated this quickly--she'd only brought him a cake and a suggestive book. But, well, here they are. And Elizabeth doesn't think she can stop anyway.]

And when my finger slides gently underneath the silk strap on your shoulder, and you drop your inhibitions to the floor like the useless things they are, we will turn on the lights this last time, make love like a supernova.

And every living creature in the universe will know your name.

[Well, the line was technically 'my name', but Elizabeth knows exactly how they are.]

[He allows himself a moment to tease her finger with his lips and tongue before pulling away, not even trying to hide the smile on his face. That had been a better response than he'd hoped for, and now he's even more curious as to the contents of this book she'd gotten for him. There's poetry and then there's poetry; from the sound of things, this book has equal amounts of both.]

I'd be disappointed with myself if they didn't.

[He's pretty sure that all of his neighbors know his name by now, at the very least.]

You're... absolutely incorrigible, Gai. [No, no, they had a cake to eat and champagne. They weren't teenagers, they were engaged and had plenty of time to themselves.]

[And then Gai had to do a thing like suck on her finger. She was having a hard time remembering to feed him.]

Why thank you.

[As much fun as teasing her like this is, however, he doesn't have any plans of taking this further just yet. Far more fun to build up the anticipation and leave her eagerly awaiting what will come next, and besides, there still is the cake and champagne, and he'd like to enjoy those before the two of them get distracted for the next few hours.]

[Elizabeth's hazy, blushing look turns into a laugh when Gai acknowledges his own horrendously flirtatious nature. She grins and remembers the cake and gets him another bite and a strawberry.]

And never shy, obviously.

You wouldn't like me as much if I were.

[This whole being fed thing is kind of nice... he could definitely get used to this. Elizabeth certainly seems to be enjoying watching him take the bites off the fork, as far as he can tell.]

We wouldn't have met, probably. [Elizabeth steals a bite for herself this time, even though she brought her own plate and fork over. This may not be as flashy as Paris, but Elizabeth can tell Gai is enjoying himself. So much so that she thinks they're probably not going anywhere in a hurry.]

Here, take this to the couch. [She holds out the plate.] I'll get the champagne and meet you.

[Gai raises his eyebrows but accepts the plate obediently and stands. The couch would be more comfortable, and there's no real risk of things getting derailed as long as food and drink are still involved. Plus it makes cuddling that much easier...]

Don't tell me you have even more surprises up your sleeve. I'm not sure my heart will be able to take all of this excitement. Or the anticipation.

[That last word is purred in a decidedly less-than-innocent tone.]

[Elizabeth pauses in twisting the wire top off of the cork, because Gai's purr even from ten feet away is just too much. She recovers and flashes him a look that could only say 'I See What You Did There'.]

No, I just don't want to keep standing up if I'm going to be feeding you all day. Sorry to disappoint. [She laughs and sets the wire bit aside and starts trying to pull the cork on the champagne. ...it's slow going.]

I would think, though, that most men dreamed of having a woman feed him while he laid back and did nothing.

[He smirks right back, pleased that he could draw a reaction from her. What would truly be disappointing would be if she didn't look askance at him like that.]

I never said that particular vision hasn't entered my fantasies on more than one occasion. The only difference is there's usually less clothing involved on both ends.

[But he'll go sit down on the couch as instructed and just make himself comfortable there with as innocent an expression on his face as he can muster after saying what he did.]

So it has entered your fantasies on more than one occasion? [Elizabeth sounds like she's trying to be dry and cagey about it, but in reality she's all but leaping at a chance to give Gai one of his fantasies. On his birthday no less-- it's perfect.]

How much less clothing did you imagine? [She's still struggling with the cork, there's time to converse, clearly.]

What do you think? I'd like to hear how your imagination fills in the blanks on this one, since I already know exactly how my version of it goes...

[While she's working on the cork, he's going to surreptitiously unbutton the first few buttons on his shirt to expose a little skin. That ought to be a nice surprise for her when she turns back around.]

Mm... [Well, in her imagination, she's wearing a corset and stockings like Gai had asked her to before. She's not wearing her corset though-- after Gai had managed to successfully get it off of her on Valentine's Day, she'd made good on her promise and started wearing modern underwear. It had taken some trial and error, but she'd found things she was comfortable in.]

[So she'd have to do something different. After wrestling with the cork some more, she growls and turns around. Oh yes, those few buttons definitely do something for Gai's overall look. It stops her in her tracks for a moment, but it also gives her an idea. She heads for the bathroom.] I need a towel to get this thing out. Don't you move now.

[She does get to the bathroom to get a towel, but once she's out of sight she unbuttons her skirt and lets it drop onto the floor. Her shoes and stockings go too, leaving her in her blouse and the undergarments she'd picked out. She wasn't completely naive, it was Gai's birthday after all.]

[She heaves a heavy sigh and comes back into the living room. Mild states of undress for both of them.] I can't get it out. Would you...?

I don't plan on it.

[For a certain definition of 'move.' What he will be doing, however, is arranging himself in a very attractive splay on the couch, legs open a little more than is strictly necessary for sitting down. He also makes sure to tilt his head just enough so that some of his hair falls forward into his face to partly obscure his eyes but not hide them entirely from view.

There, that should be perfect. She'll be pleased when she walks back in.

... until she actually does come back in, and then it's Gai's turn to be surprised in a very pleasant way. When had she gotten that underwear? And is that lace he sees?

She may have to repeat that question if she wants an actual response out of him. Right now, he's too focused on that lacy lingerie to realize that she just asked him something.]

[Oh they were just playing another game of Sexy Chicken with one another, weren't they? In Elizabeth's opinion, it wasn't fair at all that Gai could just unbutton a few buttons, splay himself over the couch in careful recline, and look gorgeous. But even if it wasn't fair, at least he wasn't going around being sexily disheveled for anyone else but her.]

[She comes out of staring first, raises an eyebrow at him to let him know that she noted the change, and goes to get the glasses from the table. Even if the tail of her blouse covers most of her underwear, Gai can get some little flashes of, indeed, lace as she walks away from him.] If you can hold me up, I think you can open a champagne cork. [She comes back to the couch with the glasses, bottle, and towel.]

What else are men for?

[Gai is nothing if not calculating, as he's displaying right now. Sexy Chicken just so happens to be one of his favorite games, because regardless of whether he wins or loses, it's guaranteed that he'll enjoy the outcome. Besides, the more they tease, the more fun things will be when all of the clothing does finally come off.

He almost wants to say that those little flashes of lace are cheating, though. Panties should NOT be that sexy, especially not when they're mostly covered by a shirt. Or maybe they're sexy because they're mostly covered-- at this point he isn't sure. Either way, he's going to stare at them until he can't stare anymore, which would be when she holds out the bottle to him.

But he will be a good fiance and uncork the bottle for her as he promised. Homemade cake, champagne, and his fiancee in her underwear... this is already shaping up to be the best birthday he's ever had.]
